An Allegheny County man was shot to death during an altercation with a ride-share driver Thursday night.

The Tribune-Review reported that a 37-year-old man was driving for Lyft when an argument began with his passenger, according to Allegheny County police Sgt. Todd Dolfi.

Police said the driver parked at a Sheetz along William Penn Highway in Wilkins, at which point the argument turned into a fight. Dolfi said the incident happened about 10:45 p.m.

The driver ultimately pulled out a pistol and shot the passenger in the chest, police said.

The passenger, who was shot once, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified the dead man as John R. Angel, 55, of Monroeville.

Police said the driver, who they did not identify, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. They will work with the district attorney’s office to determine what, if any, charges should be filed, according to Dolfi.
