Part-time employees can collect as much as $500 in direct payments.

The program was established thanks to the 2022 state budget, which was signed into law in June.

Do you qualify?

To qualify for benefits, Connecticut residents must have been employed as essential workers from March 10, 2020 to May 7, 2022.

The program defines an "Essential Worker" as an individual employee in Connecticut who was not given the option to work remotely during the pandemic.

Also, certain income requirements must be met.

Eligible workers making less than $100,000 a year will receive $1,000.

And all essential workers must make below $149,999 a year or less to qualify for money.

Employees working for a federal, state, or municipal government agency are not eligible.

Applications can be submitted online.

However, it must be done by Saturday, October 1 – meaning there are just two days left.

“There has been incredible enthusiasm for this program, with over 150,000 applications already received,” state comptroller Natalie Braswell said.

"These workers were on the frontlines during the worst of the pandemic, making tremendous personal sacrifices on our behalf.

Previously, Ms Braswell said that hope was to send out checks within 60 days of being selected.

The money will be distributed evenly and not on a first come first serve basis.

Others offering money

Connecticut isn't the only state offering cash.

In fact, low-income residents in New Mexico can apply for a relief check worth at least $400.

Applications must be submitted by Friday, October 7.

Another is California, which is providing residents with payments between $200 and $1,050 depending on filing status and income.

These checks will start going out from October 7.

In Colorado, individuals receive $750 if they were 18 years old on December 31, 2021, lived in the state during all of 2021 and filed a state tax return.

Alaska residents will get a $650 energy relief payment and another $2,550 as part of the state’s Permanent Fund dividend this fall.

Those who receive direct deposits should have got their cash already, while paper checks will go out starting the week of October 3.

Meanwhile, the state of Hawaii started sending tax rebates in August to help residents deal with rising prices.

Those earning more than $100,000 but less than $200,000 a year will be eligible for $100.

Families will also receive rebates for each dependent in the house, so rebate amounts will vary based on household size.

For instance, a family of four with an income below $100,000 will receive $1,200, while a family of five could get $1,500.

Most taxpayers receiving an electronic check will likely need to wait until the end of September for payments to arrive.

Those who are receiving paper deposits will have to wait longer, likely until the end of October, as it takes three-to-four more weeks to process.

The Virginia General Assembly has also approved a tax rebate for eligible residents worth up to $500.

Residents who filed their taxes before July 1, 2022, are likely to receive their tax rebate during September or October.

And residents in Illinois started to receive two different rebates of up to $300 on September 12.

Those in the state who qualify have until October 17 to file 2021 taxes to be eligible for the money.
