An Oklahoma church hosted a block party to help parents and students get set before school.
Many Oklahoma students went back to school this past week. For those who get some extra time, the starting line is almost here.
The Immanuel Baptist Church celebrated back to school with free backpacks. The event started at 6 p.m. and they gave away free backpacks with school supplies stuffed inside.
Any parents looking for school supplies came to get a leg up. They also had snacks and breakfast foods that they hoped will help children in the mornings while getting ready for school.
The church said they’ll be giving out free snow cones and hot dogs and after children got their school supplies, they enjoyed a little more summer fun before they go back to school.
They rented out some inflatables for the children to use while they get their supplies. The music pastor at the church said the event is a great way for them to help struggling parents.
"We know that things are still kind of tough right now, but at least we know, and we feel good with the fact that kids are not only having school supplies but there’s breakfast and snack food for them as well," said Jason Garner of Immanuel Baptist Church.
