HAWAII NEWS AT 630. GOOD EVENING. I’M DREW GARDNER AND I’M BORED OUT OF THE LOOP. A WOMAN IS BEHIND BARS TONIGHT CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER AN EARLY MORNING CRASH ON THE WATERSIDE EXPRESSWAY. 42 YEAR OLD MARIA LARA IS FACING MULTIPLE OTHER CHARGES, INCLUDING DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE. ACCORDING TO COURT DOCUMENTS, SHE TOLD POLICE SHE’D BEEN DRINKING AT A BAR ON PRESTON HIGHWAY. SHE SAYS SHE REMEMBERED GETTING IN HER CAR BUT BLACKED OUT PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THAT WAS AROUND FOUR NEAR BRECKENRIDGE LANE, A WITNESS TOLD POLICE SHE WAS WEAVING IN AND OUT PRIOR TO THE CRASH AND ALMOST HIT A CONCRETE WALL. POLICE SAY LARA HIT A CAR DRIVEN BY 33 YEAR OLD DOMINIQUE JOHNSON. THAT CAR BECAME ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND JOHNSON WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ON THE SCENE. ALL LANES OF TRAFFIC WERE SHUT

Louisville Metro Police have charged a Louisville woman with murder in connection with a deadly fiery crash that shut down the Watterson Expressway for several hours early Sunday morning. Police have arrested 42-year-old Maria Lara.Arrest records say Lara had been drinking prior to rear-ending a second vehicle at a high rate of speed. That crash caused the second vehicle to catch on fire, trapping the occupant inside. The Jefferson County Coroner's office has also released the name of the man killed in the crash. The victim was identified as 33-year-old Dominique Johnson.The incident was called in just after 4 a.m. It happened in the eastbound lanes of the Watterson. The crash closed all lanes on the Watterson at Breckenridge Lane for about five hours.The lanes opened back up at about 9 a.m.
