Douglas Fregly is a 59 year old Johnstown native.
After a gall bladder surgery in 2017 , doctors noticed something wasn't quite right with his liver and diagnosed him with stage 4 liver disease.
Before that Douglas was an active member of his community, he owned a business, Cambria Springs, with his brother which he had to sell because of the effects of his illness. He is also active in the car community and a member of The Johnstown Street Survivors.
He's been on the donor list for over a year but so far without success and he is asking for help from his community so that he can live.
“I could really use this liver because if I don’t get one, it could be another year or two and by that time the cancer could come," said Fregly. "Then you have to go through all the cancer treatments before they’ll operate on your liver, and the live donor liver works better, they have a high success rate.”
Eligible donors include anyone from the age of 18-55 who is in relatively good health and has a blood type of O or A.
If you are interested in being a donor you can contact WJAC-TV or reach out to Douglas himself through his Facebook page. You can also contact UPMC.
“I’d say just if you have it in your heart, and this is something you’ve been thinking about doing, I'd really appreciate it’d be an answered prayer," said Douglas.
