The incident left one person dead and 17 others injured. It also occurred before the suspect allegedly assaulted his mother, who later died, the officials added. "On Saturday, August 13, 2022, an individual, Adrian Oswaldo Sura Reyes, 24 years of Age from Nescopeck, Luzerne County, PA, intentionally drove a vehicle into a crowded community event, which was a benefit event for a family that recently had a fire at their house, resulting in the loss of life," Penn. "He then left the scene, drove to a residence and killed another individual. He was arraigned on charges of Criminal Homicide (2 counts) and remanded to the Columbia County Correctional Facility. "The Pennsylvania State Police Troop N and Troop P major case teams are investigating these heinous crimes," Petroski continued. "Members of both Troops mourn with the families and community as they go through this terrible tragedy and we ensure we will do a thorough and complete investigation to bring justice to this matter." Saturday's tragic events occurred at around 6:15 p.m. in Berwick Borough, Colombia County while a fundraiser was being held at the Intoxicology Department bar for the families of those who died in the devastating Aug. 6 house fire, which claimed the lives of three children and seven adults. Upon arrival, the authorities discovered "numerous injuries along with one fatality," according to a release. Following the incident, the police responded to another call relating to an assault case in Nescopeck Borough, Luzerne County. After arriving at the scene, the troopers found "a female [who was] deceased, and a male, who was detained by a Municipal Police Department," per the release. Juvenile Arrested in Connection with Murders of New Hampshire Mother and Her 2 Young Sons The Associated Press reported Luzerne County Coroner Francis Hacken confirmed the second slain victim was 56-year-old Rosa D. Reyes of Nescopeck, the mother of Sura Reyes. She died after being struck by a vehicle and assaulted with a hammer, the outlet reported. Meanwhile, Geisinger Hospital shared in a statement they treated more than 15 patients, including four who were in critical condition, ABC News reported. "This is a complete tragedy in a community where there's already been tragedy," Petroski told reporters in a previous news conference, per the AP. "We are going to do our job to the best of our abilities to conduct a thorough investigation not only for the families but the community members. They're already hurting." According to CBS News, a spokesperson for the police told the outlet that Sura Reyes is not being investigated in connection with the deadly house fire in Nescopeck.
