SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – The Bay Area is in for sweltering heat this week, as weather experts forecast temperatures from the high 90s to the lower hundreds.

Meteorologists are warning residents in the hottest areas to avoid outdoor activities from late morning to early evening, to stay hydrated, to open winds at night and to take cooling breaks whenever possible.

The National Weather Service has rated the heat-related danger as "moderate" for those inland in the Bay Area and "high" for residents in the Central Valley near Sacramento.

Bay Area residents at the greatest risk are people living inland around Santa Rosa, San Jose and Concord — where the temperature is expected to hit 103 on Tuesday. The broiling warm front is particularly threatening for people with heat sensitivity and those who do not have access to adequate cooling and hydration.

Communities closer to the coast, including San Francisco and Marin County, will be spared from the heat, facing a predicted "low" risk, according to NWS.
