In the Houston Texans' preseason matchup with the New Orleans Saints this week, Texans wideout Jalen Camp made a heartwarming tribute to his teammate and former Crimson Tide star, John Metchie III.

Camp hauled in a four-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter of the game and after securing the grab, stepped up to the front corner of the endzone and delivered an emphatic crane kick, otherwise known amongst Bama fans as the "Crimson Crane."

As many that follow either Alabama or the Texans know, Metchie was unfortunately diagnosed ahead of this season with Leukemia and is set to miss the entire year as he recovers. While the diagnosis is certainly less than ideal, Metchie's cancer is one of the most curable forms and the young wideout expects to make a full recovery.

In the Ontario native's time with the Tide, he became well known for his "Crimson Crane" celebration, so much so that many of his teammates adopted it as well by the end of his final season. Eventually, it became a sort of rallying cry for Crimson Tide fans everywhere.

From 2019-21, Metchie hauled in 155 passes for over 2,000 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Tide. He was one of the most consistently reliable targets for both Mac Jones in 2020 and Bryce Young last season.

He was picked in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft and was expected to be a major piece of the Texans' offense in his first year, but will now have to wait another season.

On behalf of everyone at Tide100.9, we continue to wish Metchie a swift and easy recovery.
