Man dies after being shot Downtown on Saturday

Police said that Sylvester Watkins, 21, succumbed to his injuries Saturday evening, after he was shot near XO Nightclub earlier that morning.

Police said Sunday that a man had died after he was shot Downtown near a nightclub early Saturday morning.

Police said that Sylvester Watkins, 21, succumbed to his injuries Saturday evening, after he was shot near XO Nightclub earlier that morning.

On Saturday, around 1:41 a.m., police working a special assignment issued a shots fired call to the 100 block of E. Long Street, a release said. Police responded to the area where the shots came from and found Watkins suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

First responders transported Watkins to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, in critical condition, and due to the severity of the injury, the Columbus homicide unit began investigating this incident.

The investigation is ongoing in light of Watkin’s death, a release said.
