Deadly Stonington house fire still undetermined

The fire broke out at a home on Fifield Point Road around 9 a.m. Sunday.

STONINGTON, Maine (WABI) - UPDATE: According to Shannon Moss with the Maine Department of Public Safety, propane tanks exploded at the Stonington home.

(WMTW) - Investigators have completed their work at the scene of a deadly house fire in Stonington.

We’re told the cause is still undetermined, but investigators say an explosion occurred before the fire.

Officials say emergency responders received a call shortly before 9 a.m., Sunday reporting explosions at the home on Fifield Road.

They say the remains of a man believed to be the owner of the home were recovered inside the home following the fire.

According to the Department of Public Safety, it’s believed the remains are those of 71-year-old David Crutcher who lived alone in the home.
