JENISON, MI – Family and friends gathered on a rainy Saturday to cruise down a large hill made into a giant water slide.

After being canceled for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual “Saturday Slip N’ Slide” was held Aug. 13, at Rosewood Park in Jenison.

Ten years ago, Steve and Shelley Frody put on the Saturday Slip N’ Slide event by themselves. This year, the Frody’s partnered with Never the Same, a national youth ministry organization, to help put it on.

“This event is really a community event,” said Geoff Eckart, Founder and CEO of Never the Same. “It’s an event to show kids and families something really fun to do on a Saturday.”

People were drawn to the Saturday Slip ‘N Slide event primarily for the four giant water slides. Anyone could ride the slides, for as long as they wanted, if they purchased a $1 wrist band.

“It was really awesome!” said Fiona Soukup, who who attended the event with her parents, after going down the giant slide.

The event was hampered by the rain and 59-degree temperature, which made the slide really cold to go down.

According to one volunteer, there were 6,000 people signed up to attend the event, but she doubted that many would show up because of the weather.

Despite the rain, there were still hundreds of people like the Soukup family who showed up to the Saturday Slip N’ Slide.

But volunteers wanted the crowd projected.

“If only it would stop raining, then more people would come out,” said volunteer Jo DeGlopper told MLive Saturday afternoon.

Besides the slides, there were some other fun things for families to do such as a human foosball trampoline, provided by Rebounderz, an indoor trampoline facility.

There was also a bubble bath, where kids could jump into a pool and get covered in foamy bubbles.
