Sarasota Yacht Club's grants support Boys & Girls Clubs, Child Protection Center
The Sarasota Yacht Club recently provided $25,000 grants to the Boys & Girls Club of Sarasota and DeSoto Counties and Child Protection Center, two nonprofits that are making a positive impact in the community through the SYC Cares Fund, a component of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County.
SYC Cares, the club’s philanthropic arm, sponsored the inaugural “Casino for a Cause” fundraising event with more than 200 members in attendance when the grants were announced. The Boys & Girls Club and the Child Protection Center were selected by the membership after three rounds of voting. The eight participating nonprofit organizations not selected in the final round each received a $1,000 donation from the SYC Cares Fund.
“Sarasota Yacht Club has a proud history of community service and support for many local programs and organizations,” Sarasota Yacht Club Commodore Brian Will said. “SYC Cares lets us show our collective support for those that strengthen our community.”
The club also announced that Bobby and Cindy Overall are this year’s recipients of the annual “Anchor Award for Philanthropy.” The award honors an individual or family member who has demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable leadership within the club and whose generosity of time and talents have encouraged others within the Sarasota Yacht Club to get involved.
“The grants from SYC Cares are an investment in our community’s future,” Sarasota Yacht Club COO and general manager Karen Harmon said. “I thank all who support our mission to make membership matter a reality, most notably, our 2022 Anchor Award for Philanthropy recipients, Bobby and Cindy Overall.”
Founded in 1926, the Sarasota Yacht Club is one of 13 original members of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs. Totally rebuilt in 2010, SYC is a private year-round yacht club rich in history that is a favorite port of call for reciprocal members from all over the world.
