Knoxville Raceway results from the $175,000 to win dirt race

The World of Outlaws have unloaded in Knoxville, Iowa for the biggest sprint car race of the season. It’s the famed Knoxville Nationals on the half-mile dirt track of Knoxville Raceway. A total purse of $1,002,060 is on the line.

Earlier today, Kyle Larson grabbed the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR race in Virginia. He’s flown across the country and is set to roll from 6th in the main event at the dirt track.

Austin McCarl and Tyler Courtney set the front row for the main event finale. 50 laps of dirt track racing are up next…

Race Report

Green flag, Austin McCarl is clear into turn. JJ Hickle jumps the right rear of Daryn Pittman and Parker Price-Miller is collected. The red flag is out.

Parker Price-Miller climbs from his car and falls to the ground as the safety workers attend to him immediately. The safety team places him on a stretcher and he’ll be transported to a local hospital. Price-Miller was communicating with the safety team.

Hickle’s car is carried off on the hook with the fuel tank gone and everything from the front radiator forward hanging off the car.

Green, McCarl gets the jump and he’s clear into turn one. Schatz attempts a slider on Courtney but he can’t clear him. Gravel takes over 3rd.

Lap 2, McCarl heads for the bottom in turn one. Courtney knocks the cushion and they run side by side off turn two. Courtney to the lead in turn three.

Lap 5, Larson slides Schatz for 5th. Larson is glued to the outside lane.

Lap 10

Lap 10, Courtney has caught the tail of the field. McCarl trails by 1 second.

Lap 12, Kyle Larson has a flat right rear and the caution is out. He heads to the pit lane for a new shoe.

Green, Courtney leads as McCarl and David Gravel run side by side for 2nd. Giovanni Scelzi is upside down in turn three and the red flag is out. He climbs from the car on his own power.

Green, McCarl launches from the cushion but it doesn’t work as Courtney is clear by five car lengths into turn one. Gravel slides McCarl for 2nd into turn three.

Lap 16, Justin Sanders comes to a stop, caution.

Green, Courtney leads Gravel off turn two.

Lap 18, Brent Marks works the inside lane, he drives by Sweet and Macedo to take 4th away.

Lap 20, Marks slides McCarl for 3rd. McCarl slides him back to retake the spot.

Halfway break

Lap 25, Courtney leads Gravel by 2 seconds. The halfway break caution is out. Teams will bring the cars to the pit lane to add fuel.

Green, Courtney heads for the bottom as Gravel rolls the cushion in turn one. Gravel has a run off turn two. Gravel drives it deep to the bottom and slides Courtney for the lead into turn three. Gravel jumps the cushion and Courtney crosses under him to retake the spot.

A lap later, Gravel slides Courtney once more. Courtney slides him back into turn one. Gravel crosses under him, Gravel to the lead.

Lap 30, David Gravel leads Courtney by 1 second.

Lap 31, Kyle Larson has climbed to 9th after suffering a flat right rear early in this race.

14 to go, Austin McCarl has a flat right rear, caution.

Green, Gravel leads Courtney and Schatz off turn two. James McFadden spins behind them, caution.

Green, Gravel leads Courtney by 6 car lengths into turn one. Schatz slides Courtney for 2nd.

12 to go, Larson slides Macedo for 4th! Macedo slows with a flat right rear, caution. Larson will drop back to 6th as the lap isn’t complete.

Green, Gravel leads Schatz.

7 to go, Gravel leads Schatz by 1 second. Gravel knocks the cushion as Schatz rolls the bottom.

5 to go, Schatz closes to the bumper of Gravel! He has a run off turn two. Schatz slides him for the lead into turn three! Schatz takes the lead.
