Avon Lake, Ohio

Working in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), the city will be installing high visibility crosswalks and rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) to increase pedestrian safety. Curb ramps that do not meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements and adjacent sidewalks, will also be replaced. According to information posted by the city, the improvements will be made at the Walker/Armour roads, and Lear Road/Creekside Drive intersections.

Improvements will be made next summer at the Walker/Armour roads intersection including installing a high visibility crosswalk and rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs) to increase pedestrian safety.

The project will consist of removing and replacing non-compliant curb ramps and adjacent sidewalks, and installing pavement markings and pedestrian signals. Traffic will be maintained in both directions during all phases of construction with the assistance of a flagger. All intersections will remain open with minimal interruptions to traffic.

Construction is slated to begin next summer (June) with an estimated cost of $140,000 paid by the city and ODOT (safety funds).

City officials are currently seeking public input regarding the project. Residents can send comments to Beth Fulton, 150 Avon Belden Road, Avon Lake, 44012 or via email at bfulton@avonlake.org. Deadline is Aug. 30.
