PITTSBURGH — It’s the most wonderful time of the year for fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I think they’ll have a winning season,” said Mike Huber of Canton, Ohio.

“I don’t usually come to preseason, but I couldn’t miss (Kenny) Pickett’s debut,” said Harry Wilson of Cranberry.

“I’m super-excited for football season getting started,” said Leah Grishkevich of Canton, Ohio.

It’s also prime time for businesses in the North Shore, with Steelers fans packing bars and restaurants on game day.

Area business owners said the last few days have been especially lucrative, starting with Thursday night’s Billy Joel concert, Def Leppard and Motley Crue Friday night, and the crowds continuing on Steeler Saturday. Servers we spoke with at Soho on Federal Street said there has been a steady stream of customers taking full advantage of the nice weather and entertainment.

“Business has been very good. It was very hectic. I want to say, through the days, we’ve been progressing, making sure everything runs smoother for the next day,” said Taryn Bivens, a server at Soho. “A lot of people, this is their only job, especially if they only have another job, they only do this one day to make a little bit of extra money.”

This jam-packed weekend isn’t over yet. Metallica will be at PNC Park Sunday night.
