CW18 STARTS NOW FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF AN ORANGE COUNTY MAN FOUND SHOT TO DEATH EARLIER THIS WEEK GATHERED TONIGHT TO HONOR HIS LIFE. THAT VIGIL WAS HELD AT THE INTERSECTION IN PINE HILLS WHERE 23 YEAR OLDS DEAN MITCHELL WAS SHOT WEST CHOOSE KELSEY AUTHORITY SPOKE WITH MITCHELL’S FAMILIES WHO STILL SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS. A LOT OF TIMES THESE THINGS HAPPEN AND WE HAD THE MISCONCEPTION THAT HE HAD TO BE LIKE A THUG OR A GANGSTER OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT AND AS A THOUSAND PERCENT UNTRUE THOSE WHO KNEW AND LOVED 23 YEAR OLD DEAN MITCHELL BEST CAME TOGETHER SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE SCENE IN PINE HILLS WHERE HE WAS SHOT AND KILLED EARLIER THIS WEEK TO SHOW THEIR RESPECT FOR THE MAN KNOWN FOR HIS CHARISMA AND CONTAGIOUS JOY. HE ENJOYED FASHION. HE LOVED DANCEHALL MUSIC HE OH MY GOD, HE WAS SO LOVING. HE WAS THE TYPE OF GUY THAT WAS ALWAYS SMILING AT ANY AND EVERYTHING ACCORDING TO THE ORANGE CAST AFTER 7:30 TUESDAY NIGHT. HE WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL BUT DIED SOON AFTER. SO FAR NO INFORMATION HAS BEEN RELEASED ABOUT WHAT LED UP TO THE SHOOTING OR WHO MAY BE A SUSPECT. MITCHELL’S FRIENDS. SAY THEY HOPE BY SHOWING PEOPLE WHO DEAN WAS THEY MAY GET MORE ANSWERS AS TO WHAT HAPPENED. I JUST FEEL LIKE IF WE SAID DEAN’S NAME IF WE HAD OUR VISUAL IF WE CONTINUE TO CONTACT THE NEWS CONTACT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT STAY ON TOP OF IT, THEN THEY’LL ACTUALLY TAKE SOME TIME AND INVESTIGATE IT FAMILY AND FRIENDS SAY THEY ALSO HOPE THAT BY HOSTING A VIGIL THEY’LL INSPIRE THE COMMUNITY TO COME UP WITH SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEM OF GUN VIOLENCE. THE TOTALITY OF WHAT’S GOING ON HERE IS IS UNACCEPTABLE. SO WE WANT TO HOST A VISUAL AND IF AT LEAST ONE YOUNG PERSON CAN SEE THIS AND SAY, YOU KNOW WHAT, YOU KNOW, THIS IS MY COMMUNITY THEN THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT THAT I WAN

Family and friends of an Orange County man found shot to death earlier this week gathered together tonight to honor his life. The vigil was held at the intersection in Pine Hills where 23-year-old Dean Mitchell was shot. "A lot of times these things happen and we have the misconception that he had to be like a thug or a gangster or something like that and that is 1000 percent untrue," Christopher Johnson, Dean Mitchell's friend said. Those who knew and loved Mitchell best came together Saturday night at the scene in Pine Hills where he was shot and killed earlier this week to show their respect for the man known for his charisma and contagious joy. "He enjoyed fashion. He loved dance hall music. Oh my God, he was so loving. He was the type of guy that was always smiling at any and everything," Johnson said. According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Mitchell was found shot near the intersection of Baywood Avenue and Willowwood Street just after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night.He was rushed to the hospital but died soon after.So far, no information has been released about what led up to the shooting or who may be a suspect.Mitchell's friends say they hope by showing people who Mitchell was, they may get more answers as to what happened. "I just felt like if we said Dean's name at our vigil, if we continued to contact the news, contact the police departments, stay on top of it, then they will actually take some time and investigate it," Johnson said. Family and friends say they also hope that by hosting a vigil, they'll inspire the community to come up with solutions to the problem of gun violence. "We want to speak on the gun violence and the totality of what's going on here is unacceptable, so we want to host a vigil and if at least one person can see this and say, 'You know what, this is my community and this is not something I want to continue to be doing,' then it's served its purpose," Johnson said.
