People out in Burlington on Saturday night will notice a heavier police presence downtown.
Vermont State Police is assisting Burlington police by patrolling the downtown area.
VSP said acting Burlington police Chief Jon Murad made a written request to the agency, asking for assistance, just after noon on Saturday.
It's in response to a shooting that happened downtown early Saturday morning that sent two people to the hospital.
Ten VSP troopers will be patrolling with the goal of providing a high-visibility police presence during busy late-night and early morning hours.
"(Burlington police) asked us to help provide just some extra resources to help keep an eye on the downtown corridor. It's a Saturday night. It's lovely weather. We're expecting the city to be busy, as it often is, and having an increased police presence can help keep the community safer, especially in light of the staffing challenges that all police agencies are facing right now," said Adam Silverman, public information officer for VSP.
VSP troopers will only be focused on patrolling the downtown area. They will not be responding to other routine calls for service.
