***UPDATE***
The suspect, identified as Adrian Oswaldo Sura Reyes, 24 years of Age, White – Hispanic Male, Nescopeck, Luzerne County, was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Doug Brewer August 14, 2022, on two (2) open counts of Criminal Homicide. He was denied bail and remanded to the Columbia County Correctional Facility.
Criminal Charges against Adrian Oswaldo Sura Reyes are filed through Magisterial District Judge Richard Cashman.
The Luzerne County coroner says the victim of the homicide that occurred at Rear 939 Ridgewood Ave. in Nescopeck was 56-year-old Rosa Reyes of Nescopeck. Her cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries and circumstances included being struck by a vehicle and assaulted with a hammer.
Additional Information on the Victim’s, both deceased and injured have not been released at this time.
State police say on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at approximately 6:15 PM, Pennsylvania State Police Bloomsburg received a call to assist Berwick Police Department with a vehicle that drove through a crowd at a community event on West 2nd Street, Berwick Borough, Columbia County. Troopers and Officers arrived and discovered numerous injuries along with 1 fatality.
Shortly thereafter, Pennsylvania State Police Shickshinny received a call that in Nescopeck Borough, Luzerne County, a Male was physically assaulting a Female. Upon Troopers arrival, they discovered a Female deceased, and a Male who was detained by a Municipal Police Department.
The Male, who is the Suspect in both incidents, is in custody at PSP Shickshinny, awaiting criminal charges.
At this time, there is 1 confirmed fatality from the Berwick Crash along with 17 people injured. Twelve (12) injured were transported to Geisinger Danville, three (3) were transported to Geisinger Wyoming Valley, one (1) to Berwick Hospital and one (1) to Geisinger Bloomsburg to be treated for injuries sustained in the crash. In Nescopeck, there is 1 confirmed fatality.
Troopers say these Investigations are very active. The Columbia County District Attorney’s Office along with the Troop N Major Case Team are investigating the Homicide Incident in Berwick, Columbia County.
The Luzerne County District Attorney’s Office along with the Troop P Major Case Team are investigating the Homicide that occurred in Nescopeck Borough, Luzerne County.

Multiple people were hit by a car on West Second Street in Berwick this evening.
Details are sketchy at this point. According to our newsgathering partners at the Times-Leader, it happened near the Intoxicology Department Bar and Restaurant. They say the bar was hosting an all-day event to raise money for the three survivors of that deadly fire in Nescopeck last week. According to a Geisinger spokesman, they were providing care for 13 patients as of 8:30 p.m. Saturday at their hospital in Danville. He also said the staff is assessing and triaging patients for appropriate care.
There is a press conference set to take place around 11 p.m. at the Pennsylvania State Police about the incident.
