PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Protests against Congressman Matt Gaetz are continuing to heat up as election day gets closer.
Protestors lined up outside his campaign rally with Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan Saturday at Sanders Beach.
Congressmen Gaetz and Jordan covered just about every topic you can think of from the recent FBI search at President Trump’s home in Mar-a-Lago to the Second Amendment.
During the campaign rallies, protestors were outside chanting to make sure their voices were heard.
The group -- "Women Against Matt Gaetz" -- led the charge.
One protester says, "I believe that Matt Gaetz has really done his time and needs to go."
The group says they’re speaking up after Gaetz's recent comments about women who protested the overturn of Roe v. Wade.
Gaetz even talked about the protestors during Saturday's rally.
"You know how the fake news will report it," Gaetz said. "They’ll say 'oh while a few people gathered to support Matt Gaetz and Jim Jordan' but there were 50 people outside."
Congressman Jordan said at the rally, "We might disagree on policy and I'm going to fight like crazy in congress to do what I think is best for the country, but we can smile it’s America."
One of Gaetz’s opponents, Mark Lombardo, was also outside.
Lombardo says he wasn’t there to protest.
"We want everyone to know that there is an alternative for the first congressional district," Lombardo said.
Channel 3 also spoke with US Florida District 1 Candidate Greg Merk after the rally.
"I believe that I can beat Matt Gaetz on the issues, because we are diametrically opposed on things like climate change, transgenders in the military, the radical animal rights groups, legal recreational marijuana and I can go on and on about the issues," Merk said.
Both sides were represented at Saturday's rally.
Early voting started Saturday and will run through next Saturday with Primary Election Day scheduled for August 23.
