YORK, PA — On Friday, Governor Wolf visited the William C. Goodridge Freedom Center and Underground Railroad Museum in York, PA to participate in the unveiling of a life-sized statue of William C. Goodridge.
The statue is designed by nationally known sculptor, Gary Casteel, and is the first African American statue in York, PA. The statue commemorates William C. Goodridge, who was born as a slave but became free at a very young age and moved to York, Pennsylvania, where he went on to find great success as an entrepreneur.
Governor Wolf exclaimed that this is an important milestone for Black History and for Pennsylvania.
