Seminole County middle school student accused of kneeing deputy in groin arrested
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office says a middle school student was arrested Friday. A school resource deputy responded at Greenwood Lakes Middle School at approximately 4:09 p.m. on Lake Park Drive in Lake Mary. The dean of Greenwood Lakes Middle School asked for help with an "uncontrollable" 13-year-old student, who is not being identified. When the deputy attempted to speak to the boy multiple times, the student bumped into him more than twice. The deputy used a "slight push" to prevent the teenager from continuing to bump into him. According to the arrest report, the student "shoulder-checked" the deputy in response, leading the deputy to try to get control by spinning the boy towards the wall. When the teen pushed back and swung his hand at the chest of the deputy, he was then commanded to stop. However, the student kneed the deputy in the groin and resisted arrest by pushing and pulling as the deputy went to handcuff him, the Seminole County Sheriff's Office says. The Seminole County Fire Department responded and checked the student for injuries. The 13-year-old did not suffer any injuries and was taken to a juvenile assessment center, the arrest report says. According to the sheriff's office, the teenager is facing charges of resisting a law enforcement officer without violence and battery on a law enforcement officer. The principle of Greenwood Lakes Middle School released this statement: "It saddens me to report at the very end of the day we had a student make a verbal threat towards an adult. Administrators and staff responded to the situation. Unfortunately, that student continued to make poor choices with adults which led to resource officers arresting the student. Please encourage your students to follow our SOARing Behaviors each and every day!"
