UPDATED 6:00 p.m. - The report of a kidnapping that was called in to the Chico Police Department late Friday night at the north end of town was "unfounded," according to detectives.

The Chico Police Department's Violence Suppression Unit investigated the report on Saturday.

"The missing person was contacted, located, and interviewed," detectives said.

Earlier Saturday the detectives had been investigating the incident as a "missing person under suspicious circumstances," and were not calling it a kidnapping investigation.

CHICO, Calif. – The Chico Police Department is conducting an investigation into a missing person incident that originated from a 9-1-1 call from a north Chico location late on Friday night.

The phone call to dispatch was a report about a possible kidnapping, according to the police department. Officers explained on Saturday morning that they have been unable to substantiate that a kidnapping occurred, so they are considering it a missing person’s case “under suspicious circumstances.”

Officers said their investigation resulted in “very convoluted and inconsistent” information.

The police department is not releasing any other information at this time as their Criminal Investigations Section continues to work the missing person’s case. No names of any suspects or victims are being released at this time.
