The 29-year-old owner, Rahul Nath, was walking 12-year-old Mango in front of 100 White Street in East Wiliamsburg around 7:15 p.m. when the incident happened.

The three men approached Nath and tackled him into a fire hydrant demanding money. When he said he didn’t have any money on him, they stole Mango, police said.

“The people who attacked me didn’t care about anything except taking the most valuable thing they saw I had,” Nath told the Daily News. “They saw her value to me.”

Nath suffered a laceration to his back, right knee and left arm from the fall into the hydrant. EMS workers treated him at the scene.

Nath spread the word of the missing Chihuahua/Terrier mix via social media and got a call around 8:45 a.m. Sunday that someone had spotted Mango abandoned on the sidewalk near the Lorimer Street Station stuffed inside of a backpack.

“She is injured a little,” Nath said. “The back of her paws are ripped up from when she was dragged along the sidewalk when stolen. But otherwise happy to be home."

Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
