BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - While investigating a SWAT call in the 1600 block of Hollowhill Drive Friday, Bryan police say they discovered multiple children living in hazardous and deplorable conditions.

According to arrest affidavits obtained by KBTX, Gregory and Jennie Page were arrested on Aug. 12 and charged with four counts each of abandon endanger child criminal negligence and 16 counts of harboring wild animals.

Authorities responded to the residence after receiving a complaint of a perpetrator holding hostages inside. While investigators ultimately determined the original call to be a hoax, records say they found the apartment infested with trash, cockroaches, feces, and multiple venomous snakes.

Amy Melesky-Dyer has lived in Bryan her entire life. She and her family are currently transitioning houses, so they recently started renting a unit at that Hollowhill Drive apartment complex. Dyer said she lived right across from the Page’s so she saw both of them taken into custody on Friday.

”It makes me feel horrible. I kind of had a bad feeling from the beginning when we moved in,” said Dyer. “But always, always use your gut feeling. Look at this situation.”

Dyer told us the kids were hardly ever seen outside of their unit. She said the only time she’s noticed them was when they’ve helped their mother get groceries.

”These children, they have looked out the window and waved. There are some smaller ones in there, but they never were allowed to come out? Which always made me feel sad, like why they were always cooped up in that house,” Dyer said.

CPS responded and removed all the children due to the living conditions. Dyer said she prays for the children involved and said she wants the best for them in this extremely tough situation.

“Honestly there was like a sigh of relief on those kids faces when they walked out,” said Dyer. “None of them were crying. None of them looked like they were upset. So, it just looked like a sigh of relief that they were getting out of that situation.”
