Around 5:15 a.m. on July 12, Johnny Pizarro was watching equipment trucks for the show’s crew on N. Henry Street near Norman Avenue in Greenpoint when he was attacked.
Pizarro was initially assigned to a set at McCarren Park on N. 12th Street and Bedford Avenue before being moved to another post on N. Henry Street, Chief of Detectives James Essig said.
A man on a bicycle was circling the area as Pizarro was getting a post change. The attacker then followed him on the bike five minutes later, circling the block before striking, Essig added.
The shooter opened the driver’s side of Pizarro's car, fired a shot and then took off, specifically targeting the victim, police said.
Officials added that Pizarro also had a large quantity of “designer marijuana,” labeled ‘Cali’ or ‘California' and stored in a cooler, in his car which was not stolen, cops said.
Investigators have yet to determine the cause of Pizarro’s murder and are now focused on finding the man on the bicycle.
