Evalyn Powell Martin

Evalyn Powell Martin, 88 of Mount Pleasant, TX; formerly of Taylor, AR and Springhill, LA, passed away August 5, 2022 at The Lodge in Mt. Pleasant.

Evalyn was born May 7, 1934 in Emerson, Arkansas to the late Arrie Jackson and Verna Mae (Stevenson) Taylor. She was a long time member of the Spring Branch Baptist Church in Welcome, AR, volunteered at Springhill Medical Center serving breakfast as needed and sewing and donating cough pillows for patient use. She enjoyed many happy times with the Good Neighbors Club and Senior Friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 55 years, Lowell Powell; daughter Jean Powell O’Banion; granddaughter Leslie O’Banion; brothers Gaylon Taylor and Larry Taylor; sisters Helen Owens and Margie Spivey; husband Curtis Martin; and step son, Curtis Martin, Jr.

Evalyn is survived by sons Lowell (Eddie) Powell, Jr. and wife Clarrissa of Taylor, AR; Danny Powell and wife Teresa of Shongaloo, LA; Mark Powell and wife Karen of Jackson, La; daughter Cathy Jones and husband Bruce of Mount Pleasant, TX; brother Alton Taylor; sister Barbara Mattison; step daughters Brenda Smith and Arlene Sellers; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; and many loved ones. A graveside service will be held August 20, 2022 at Spring Branch Cemetery, Welcome, AR at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Spring Branch Cemetery Fund, 586 Columbia Road 22, Taylor, AR 71861.
