DETROIT (WWJ) -- Michigan State Police are investigating the stabbing death of a man on Belle Isle, after the alleged killer turned himself in.

MSP officials said they were alerted by the Hamtramck Police Department Friday night that the suspect, who is 17 years old, turned himself in at a police station.

The body of the victim, identified as a 55-year-old man from Hamtramck, was found by MSP troopers in the area of Riverbank Rd. and Oakway Dr. on Belle Isle, near the Belle Isle Nature Center.

It's unclear at this time what led to the slaying. While police have not discussed a possible motive, officials said the suspect and the victim knew each other.

MSP said the knife used in the stabbing has been recovered by police.

The family of the victim, whose name has not yet been released, has been notified, police said.

No charges were immediately announced the case. MSP said a full investigative report will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office when the investigation is complete.
