The 10th Annual Knotweed Festival returns to the Blairsville Diamond today with plenty of fun, food and music planned for attendees.
The festival focuses on the Japanese knotweed plant, which is an invasive species found near rivers across the U.S. and in Indiana County. One specific location of knotweed in the county is the Conemaugh River.
Festival spokesperson Damien Boudreaux talked about how the festival got its roots.
Lynda Long, who grew up in Blairsville, said the Knotweed Festival is a great form of revitalization for the borough.
Festivities kick-off at 10 a.m. with the parade that will run through Market Street. The kids’ zone will open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with a rock-climbing wall and petting zoo available among other attractions.
Bands will provide live entertainment throughout the day. The first act will be L.E.D. a younger, local band. The Blairsville Community Band will take the stage at the amphitheater in the afternoon, with Told Ya So taking the stage a little later. Wild Card, a local country band will also perform during the event. Headlining the night is the Steel City Yacht Club at 7 p.m.
Other events include “History at High Noon” by the Blairsville Underground Railroad and the Ray Crawford Memorial Car Cruise from 4-8 p.m. and it will start at the Tractor Supply parking lot.
