Tavern on the Hill damaged by fire in Easthampton

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – The Tavern on the Hill in Easthampton on 100 Mt. Tom Road is closed until further notice after suffering damage from a fire.

The Mountain Road between Holyoke and Easthampton was closed last night while the Easthampton Fire Department worked to put out the fire around 11:15 p.m., Friday.

When fire crews first arrived, they found an active fire on the interior and exterior of the building. Crews secured a water supply and began suppression efforts.

A second alarm was transmitted bringing in mutual aid from Northampton Fire Rescue, Barnes Air National Guard Fire Department, Holyoke Fire Department, Southampton Fire Department, Westover Fire Department, South Hadley Fire Department District 1, and the Easthampton Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

According to the Easthampton Fire Department, the loss of structure and contents was minimized because the fire was localized to a small area of the building. At the time of the fire, nobody was inside the structure, and no one was hurt.

The Tavern’s owner posted pictures of the resulting damage to Facebook, saying a passerby noticed the building on fire just after 11:30 p.m. last night and called the fire department. According to Easthampton police, the fire was put out and the road was back open around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

“Our thoughts are with the owners of Tavern on the Hill as they begin the recovery efforts from this event and we know the community will support them as they begin this process,” said Easthampton Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. 22news will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
