GRIDLEY, Calif. - At approximately 2:01 a.m. on Aug. 12, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BSCO) responded to a reported shooting in the 200 block of Highway 99, said BSCO.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies contacted a victim that was shot. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital and received medical care. BCSO says the victim remains in critical condition.

During the investigation, BCSO detectives found evidence that gave just cause to believe Francisco Magana, 35, of Gridley, was involved in the shooting.

Detectives determined Magana resided in an encampment off Highway 99 outside Gridley. Magana fled on foot when the BCSO SWAT Team responded to the area and attempted to arrest him, BCSO said.

BCSO SWAT conducted a search f the area surrounding the encampment with assistance from a BCSO helicopter and located Magana after an hour-long search.

SWAT team members located Magana and placed him under arrest for a felony count of home invasion robbery and for violating the terms and conditions of his parole, said BCSO.

This is an active and ongoing investigation. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with additional information to contact Detective Zach Price at 530-538-7671.
