Fernando Tatis Jr. suspended 80 games after testing positive for perfomance-enhancing substance

Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr. has received an 80-game suspension without pay after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. Tatis has not played yet this season for the Padres after fracturing his wrist in a motorcycle accident. Tatis will miss the rest of the 2022 season and could miss up to the first 32 games of the 2022 season depending on how many playoff games the Padres play. Tatis finished 3rd in NL MVP voting in the 2021 season.

The Padres released the following statement:

“We were surprised and extremely disappointed to learn today that Fernando Tatis Jr. tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program and subsequently received an 80-game suspension without pay. We fully support the Program and are hopeful that Fernando will learn from this experience.”
