One trapped, critically injured after FedEx driver collides with parked cars in Salt Lake

At least one person was critically injured after a FedEx driver collided with parked cars and then struck two other pedestrians in Salt Lake City.

Officials were waved down by a community member near the area of 450 South 400 West approximately around 3:30 p.m. on Friday when the incident occurred.

Salt Lake City Fire responded and immediately began rescue operations.

Based off preliminary information, Brent Weisberg, spokesperson with SLCPD said a FedEx delivery truck driver hit several parked cars on the right shoulder of the road while traveling southbound on 400 West. The truck driver then hit three pedestrians in the area.

One of the pedestrians, later identified as a 66-year-old man was trapped under the truck and had to extricated.

The person who was trapped under the commercial truck was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and another was were seriously injured.

All pedestrians were transported to a nearby hospital via ambulance.

The driver of the truck remained on scene and officers were investigating if a medical-related episode occurred prior to the crash.

No arrests or citations have been made.

Salt Lake police asked for drivers not to drive down 400 West as they clear the scene. They expect 400 West to be closed in between 400 South and 500 South for at least the next two to three hours.
