7 p.m. UPDATE: Traffic cleared along I-85 in South Carolina.All lanes of I-85 South in North Carolina have reopened near Exit 2, Battleground Road, near Kings Mountain, following an earlier crash. Traffic in the area has returned to normal.6 p.m. UPDATE: Traffic was moving in South Carolina at mile marker 104.9 near Tribal Road, but it was slowly creeping along at mile marker 101.8 near North Mountain Street.PREVIOUS:Interstate 85 is closed Friday evening, causing a miles-long backup near the South Carolina state line of North Carolina.The North Carolina Department of Transportation said a crash has closed I-85 is closed near Exit 2, which is Battleground Road near Kings Mountain.Officials offered the following detours:Southbound drivers should take exit 4 (US 29) for 4.3 miles, then re-enter I-85.Northbound drivers can take exit 106 (US 29) and turn left, then go north for 4.3 miles to get back on I-85.The interstate was expected to re-open by 8 p.m., officials said.Video from the South Carolina DOT at mile marker 104.9 showed traffic at a standstill at 5:45 p.m., which is at least a four-mile backup.

All lanes of I-85 South in North Carolina have reopened near Exit 2, Battleground Road, near Kings Mountain, following an earlier crash. Traffic in the area has returned to normal.

6 p.m. UPDATE:

Traffic was moving in South Carolina at mile marker 104.9 near Tribal Road, but it was slowly creeping along at mile marker 101.8 near North Mountain Street.

PREVIOUS:

Interstate 85 is closed Friday evening, causing a miles-long backup near the South Carolina state line of North Carolina.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation said a crash has closed I-85 is closed near Exit 2, which is Battleground Road near Kings Mountain.

Officials offered the following detours:

Southbound drivers should take exit 4 (US 29) for 4.3 miles, then re-enter I-85.

Northbound drivers can take exit 106 (US 29) and turn left, then go north for 4.3 miles to get back on I-85.

The interstate was expected to re-open by 8 p.m., officials said.
