ALLEN PARK (WWJ) -- Police say a 14-year-old boy out on bond after allegedly shooting his girlfriend was driving a stolen pickup truck involved in a wild chase through Wayne County.

Michigan State Police released dash cam and aerial video of the pursuit late Thursday night, starting in Southwest Detroit, continuing through Dearborn, and ending on the Southfield Freeway at Outer Drive in Allen Park.

"These videos highlight the great work the men and women of the Michigan State Police and the officers of the Detroit Police Department do everyday to reduce the amount of violent crime in Detroit and take guns off the street," MSP said.

The chase began when, during a traffic stop, Detroit Police said someone in the vehicle rolled a window down and began to fire shots at officers.

Footage shows the pickup driver running several red lights, at speeds over 100 mph, with police in pursuit.

In the area of Schaefer and I-75. MSP said a passenger in the truck continued to fire multiple shots at pursuing police cars.

After the truck entered the freeway, an MSP trooper performed a PIT maneuver to try to stop the suspects.

When the truck kept going, the trooper tried a second PIT maneuver and was able to bring the pickup to a stop.

At that point, three people jumped out of the truck and tried to flee, hopping the fence separating the freeway from the service drive.

"After realizing the danger these suspects posed to the public and knowing the suspects attempted to murder Detroit Police Officers, troopers drove close enough to the armed suspects to bring the pursuit to an end," MSP said.

"And even after knowing the suspects were armed, the troopers and officers engaged in a foot pursuit of the suspects to make sure they were not free to roam the streets and commit more crimes. This is just another example of MSP’s commitment to reduce violent crime in the state."

Police said three suspects were taken into custody, including the 14-year-old driver who just two days prior was released on an $800 bond in the shooting of his girlfriend.

Speaking at a news conference Friday, Detroit Police Assistant Chief Charles Fitzgerald told reporters the girlfriend was left paralyzed.

"He shot his girlfriend at a house down in the same area where we encountered him yesterday, down at the south end of the Fourth Precinct," Fitzgerald said. "[He} shot her in the lower back. She's most likely going to be in a wheelchair the rest of her life."

The two others arrested were identified as a 17-year-old and an adult.

Police believe it was the adult who fired on officers. Officers did return fire, but no one was injured.

WWJ's Charlie Langton reported that the adult was wanted on murder charges.

The pickup involved in the chase was reported stolen out of Ecorse last November, police said.

Charges in connection with the chase and the shots fired at police are pending.
