VAN LEAR, Ky. — The search for a missing 12-year-old girl has come to a tragic end, after her body was found on Thursday.

The search for Stacia Leigh Collins grew out of a report of an assault Thursday morning. Johnson County deputies went to the home in Van Lear, where they found Collins’ father, Stacy Collins, injured from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said Stacy Collins was taken to Highlands ARH Medical Center for treatment, but had no further information about his condition.

During the investigation into that incident, it was discovered that Stacia Collins was missing. With the help of neighbors, her body was found a short time later. Her body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

Authorities are not releasing any additional information about the incidents at this time. The case remains under investigation.
