Brandon Dorlus
Oregon Ducks

One-Liner:

This is a powerful defensive lineman with an impressive first step and enough quickness to beat the offensive lineman off the line.

Evaluation:

Big and powerful player, with a surprising amount of get off. He has a very quick first step which allows him to get into the body of the attempting blocker. This doesn’t allow the offensive lineman to extend his arms so he loses most of his strength and grip, severely hindering his ability to block. Great bull rush. If he gets both hands on an opponent he can easily control the direction you go and has an excellent secondary rip to finish plays. Just an overall disruptive player, whether it’s rushing the passer or versus the run. Has strong hands and is very difficult to get away from once he has you. He doesn’t have a wide variety of moves though so it can be difficult for him to recover if he is beaten off the snap. He is kind of a tweener when it comes to size, but can still play at every position across the line. Not really a speed rusher, but his first step helps him beat the offensive line off the line of scrimmage. He does stand too high at times and it takes him out of the play, so he will definitely want to improve that this upcoming season. It will be very interesting to see what position he plays more of this upcoming year and how he can balance playing both tackle and end. That being said, the more you can do for a team, the more attractive you become as a draft prospect.

Grade:

3rd Round

Background:

Brandon Dorlus is already getting recognized before the 2022 season has started. He is on the All American Preseason Fourth Team and Pac 12 All Conference Team. Back in 2021, he was All Conference First Team and on the PFF National Team of the Week in the first week of the season. Even as a freshman, he made contributions to the Ducks. From Fort Lauderdale, and attending Deerfield Beach High School, Dorlus was a three star prospect and was the ninth best defensive end in the state of Florida. At Deerfield Beach, he was a two year letterman and earned All Broward County. Now in 2022, Dorlus will be looked at as a key piece on the Ducks defense.
