WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI - Police are searching for a suspect in a shooting that occurred Friday morning in the parking lot of Walmart just outside Saline.
The Aug. 12 shooting involved two employees from a nearby business who knew each other, and police do not believe there is an immediate threat to public safety, Pittsfield Township Director of Public Safety Matthew Harshberger said.
One victim, a 22-year-old Ypsilanti Township resident, was shot in the leg and was taken to a local hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, police said.
The shooting occurred just before 10 a.m. Friday in the parking lot near the intersection of State Street and East Michigan Avenue.
The suspect in the shooting fled the scene, but police know the shooter’s identity and are currently searching for him, said Harshberger, who added police hope to have the suspect in custody before the end of the day.
No one else was hurt in the incident, Harshberger said.
“It was not a random incident. They knew each other. It was a situation that spilled over into the Walmart parking lot,” Harshberger said.
Anyone with information on the shooting can contact the Pittsfield Township Police Department via a confidential tip line at 734-822-4958, or call the front desk at 734-822-4911 for general information.
