LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The shelter in place order put in place this morning after a suspicious package was found in downtown Louisville has been lifted and Louisville Metro Police have given the "all clear."

A suspicious package that was found on Fifth Street in downtown Louisville near Jefferson and Market Streets.

Louisville Police Chief Erika Shields said the device was being transported to another location for more testing.  Any further information about the iincident will come from the Louisville FBI. 

LMPD found a device which appeared to be a pipe with wires sticking out of it.  In a release, LMPD said they are investigating the device and are canvassing the area for other potential threats.  LMPD encourages everyone to avoid the area.  Businesses and all employees are being urged to shelter in place.

Chief Erica Shields spoke with reporters and said LMPD is working with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Shields says they are testing the device to make sure it doensn't pose a threat and they are working quickly to determine whether or not it is an explosive device.  Shieids wouldn't comment on a potential target, but did confirm there is only one device and only one location.

At 1 p.m., LMPD said it was determined the device was safe to transport elsewhere for further ivestigation.  The FBI is handling this.  P

LMPD was holding a recruit graduation ceremony at Metro Hall, but since it is so close to the area, it is being rescheduled.  An abbreviated ceremony was held.
