JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – With less than two weeks to go until one of the oldest rivalries in college football reignites at Hansen Stadium, the University of Jamestown is preparing to take on Valley City State. August 25th marks the start of another season for Jimmie football.

Head coach Brian Mistro, now in his fourth season, talked about the importance of changing the program and rebuilding Jimmie football from his first day on campus.

With more and more players getting in reps over the summer, the competition inside of the Jamestown program has also kicked up a notch. As the Jimmies get ready for game day and the 2022 season, everyone has a chance to win a starting spot.

Putting the best 22 guys out on the field means that some younger guys could step up to fill a bigger role for the Jimmies this season. Most importantly, Mistro and his coaching staff have brought in players who want to play for and represent UJ football.

Thursday, August 25th at 7:00 PM, the Jimmies will play their first game ever under the lights at home. Jamestown has lost the last two Paint Bucket Games after bringing the trophy home in 2018. Mistro is ready for the Bucket to be in his office.

And while there is of course animosity between the two schools, Mistro also talked about the respect he has for the Vikings program.

The Jimmies open up the year with back-to-back home games before a road matchup on September 10th at Briar Cliff. UJ’s homecoming is set for October 1st against Doane. All games in the GPAC will be played on Saturdays at 1:00 PM.
