TRIADELPHIA, WV (LOOTPRESS) – It was announced Wednesday evening that Sgt. Danny Pennington of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department recently received the distinction of Prevention Resource Officer ‘Rookie of the Year’ for his efforts toward the program and the children for which it operates.
A statement released from Sheriff Robert Elbon Jr. details a training event which occurred August 1 – August 5, at which Pennington received the honor for his contributions.
“I am very proud of Danny’s achievements for the past year,” says Elbon.
The PRO program was implemented in the Randolph County School system after Sheriff Elbon approached Superintendent Debbie Schmidlen and Assistant Superintendent Joseph Arbogast with the idea last year.
“This partnership has provided safety and security to Elkins Middle School and Tygart Valley High/Middle School as the deputy’s home schools along with mentoring and visibility and programs with all other schools in Randolph County,” Sheriff Elbon says of the program. “I feel our children are our greatest asset and feel we must protect our children in any way possible. School safety in Randolph County is a top priority to me and the deputies.”
