Children injured in Dauphin County shooting

SWATARA TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — Swatara Township Police are investigating a Thursday night shooting in which two children were shot, according to police.

Officers were dispatched to a home in the 4900 block of Cumberland Street in Swatara Township shortly before midnight on Aug. 11 for a report of shots fired.

“I hear the bullet, the shot,” neighbor Demas Revara said. “I was in bed when that happened.”

Multiple shots were fired into the home from the vicinity of the street, the Swatara Township Police Department reports. Police say a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old were hit by the gunfire.

The children were seriously injured and transported to a hospital for treatment. Police believe this was a targeted attack but the children who were shot were not the intended target.

Neighbors in the area told abc27 it is usually a peaceful, quiet neighborhood.

“I never heard anything like that before, like shot somebody. No, that’s the first time I see that,” Revara said.

According to Swatara Township Director of Public Safety Darrell Reider, police obtained a search warrant for the house that was struck by bullets and arrested several people inside on charges not related to the shooting.

Police have not said what charges any of those people arrested could face and have not confirmed whether they have made any arrests connected to the shooting.

Police are still interviewing witnesses, and they are asking anyone in the area with surveillance cameras to contact the police department.

On Monday, Aug. 15, a lieutenant with Swatara Township Police told abc27 that the investigation was still ongoing but was yielding results. The officer said no additional arrests had been made since the ones shortly after the shooting. No updates have been provided yet on the conditions of the children.
