Fight between Lyft driver, passenger ends with fatal shooting in Wilkins
Authorities have identified the man who was shot to death during an altercation with a ride-share driver Thursday night in Wilkins.
Investigators said a 37-year-old man was driving for Lyft when an argument began with his passenger, according to Allegheny County police Sgt. Todd Dolfi.
The driver parked at a Sheetz along William Penn Highway, at which point the argument turned to a physical fight, police said.
The driver ultimately pulled out a pistol and shot the passenger in the chest, police said. The incident happened about 10:45 p.m., Dolfi said.
The passenger, who was shot once, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Allegheny County Medical Examiner identified the deceased man as John R. Angel, 55, of Monroeville.
Police said the driver, who they did not identify, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
Dolfi said investigators will work with the District Attorney’s Office to determine what, if any, charges should be filed.
