DETROIT (WWJ) – The family of a young man shot and killed while delivering for DoorDash in Detroit last month is still pleading for answers.

Saturday, July 2 was the first day Da’Jour Russ worked as a DoorDash driver. Authorities say Russ was making a delivery in the 1700 block of Bagley in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood around 8 p.m. when shots rang out.

After the drive-by shooting, authorities say the driver of the vehicle circled back and fired more shots, striking and killing the 22-year-old.

While police are not sure of a motive, the family believes it may have been a case of mistaken identity.

On Thursday, Russ’s family gathered to call for justice for a young man they say was not only innocent, but respectable and helpful.

“He always helped somebody when they needed help,” his mother, Tolanda Russ said. “He helped take care of his brothers and sisters when their father passed away. He took them to school. He was just a great young man.”

His tearful aunt, Narissa Russ, said “I need him, because he was like, the only help I had.”

The family’s pleas for answers came at a Crime Stoppers press conference. Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for anyone who can provide tips that lead to the arrest of the person or people responsible for his murder.

Anyone who knows something about the murder can submit tips to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-SPEAK-UP or online at www.1800speakup.org.

All Crime Stoppers tipsters will remain 100% anonymous.
