Pittsburgh to get $11.3M grant for Hill District infrastructure

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - The city of Pittsburgh is getting $11.3 million to improve infrastructure in the Hill District. 

Improvements will be made at intersections and city steps. Traffic calming measures and green infrastructure will also be put in place. 

Lawmakers said the grant will ensure there's equity in the investments being made in the Middle and Upper Hill. 

"Depending on when the money is available, we certainly have enough ready to go in the pipeline to get this started immediately," said Jake Wheatley, the mayor's chief of staff. 

Those working on development projects around the Hill District said poor infrastructure has actually held up projects in the area, impacting jobs and economic revitalization. 

"The potential for this funding to unlock the redevelopment potential of our commercial corridor is certainly one of the primary reasons why I am excited about it," said Marimba Milliones, Hill Community Development Corporation president and CEO.
