Emergency crews were able to contain a grass and brush fire that broke out in Reno County Thursday afternoon.
Officials said that field crews were cutting CRP grass when the grass fire was ignited. The fire then spread into trees and across K-14 Highway, threatening nearby homes.
K-14 was blocked between Arlington Road and Parallel Road due to hazardous smoke conditions. Additional crews were called in to assist.
The fire burned around 8,200 acres.
