At least 10 people have had their wallet stolen while speaking to a conspirator pretending to ask for directions since July 14, according to officials.

The most recent victim lost her wallet around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Costco parking lot on Garet Place in Commack.

She noticed her wallet was missing after speaking to a man who asked for directions and went back to the store to see if she left it there.

She saw the man who had asked for directions standing by the entrance with another man as she approached the building.

Both of the men ran when they noticed her.

The other “deception thefts” followed a similar pattern in which a scammer would ask for directions in a Costco parking lot while a co-conspirator would snatch the victim’s wallet.

The other thefts took place between 12:15 p.m. and 4:25 p.m. in Holbrook, Nesconset, East Northport, Commack and Melville.
