POLAND TWP., Ohio (WKBN) – New details are coming to light after a Beaver Falls man was arrested in a police chase that ended in a crash Thursday afternoon in Poland Township.

Pennsylvania State Police were chasing Oscar Gaunt, 41, who troopers say drove across the state border, hit a stop sign and crashed on New Castle Road.

A report gives new information that as Gaunt started to flee, he struck a patrol car, leading to the chase.

According to Chippewa Township Police, the incident began with a domestic violence call around 11 a.m. Thursday.

It was then that they say Gaunt ran away with a stolen handgun. Chippewa Police used GPS technology to track Gaunt to Lawrence County.

Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) then located him and pursued Gaunt in a high-speed chase that ended in a crash in Poland Township.

Pennsylvania State Police and Union Township Police were on the scene. At one point, at least a dozen cruisers responded.

The PSP trooper said after Gaunt crashed, he was given orders to get out of the vehicle but didn’t listen. Troopers then drew their guns and pulled him out of the vehicle.

Gaunt was not injured and has been taken to the Mahoning County Jail.

Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) charged Gaunt with an OVI and failure to control.

Chippewa Police are also charging Gaunt with possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, terrorist threat, reckless endangering, disorderly conduct and possession of drugs.

Gaunt also faces a fleeing and eluding charge from Pennsylvania State Police.

After Gaunt faces charges in Struthers, he will be sent back to Pennsylvania to face his remaining charges.
