State highways officials said major repair work was underway Thursday on a section of road in Kanawha County that was damaged after a culvert was washed out Wednesday during flooding.
The repairs were being performed on Martin’s Branch Road, according to a news release from the state Department of Transportation.
District 1 Maintenance Engineer Kathy Rushworth said crews were at the scene Wednesday night and Thursday morning. She said barring any unusual circumstances, the pipe would be in place and the road reopened on Thursday.
In Kanawha County, culverts washed out on Martin’s Branch Road, Kelly’s Creek Road and Camp Virgil Tate Road. Crews repaired damage on Kelly’s Creek Road and Camp Virgil Tate Road overnight, and reopened both roads.
Martins Branch, with more extensive damage, required a large excavator to dig out the damaged culvert pipe, state officials said.
