ONE DEAD IN THREE-VEHICLE CRASH INVOLVING 18-WHEELER NEAR NAVASOTA

One person was killed in a three-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler Wednesday afternoon in Grimes County.

The crash happened shortly after 1 p.m. on Highway 105 at County Road 417, east of Navasota.

According to DPS reports, a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup driving westbound was stopped for vehicles turning onto County Road 417.  A 2009 Chevrolet Equinox was also traveling westbound when, for an unknown reason, it failed to drive in a single lane and came to a stop in the eastbound lane, facing north.

A 2005 Kenworth 18-wheeler traveling eastbound struck the Chevrolet, causing the Chevrolet to spin around and strike the Dodge.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 70-year-old Jimmie Williams of Houston, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge and the 18-wheeler were not injured.

DPS says investigation is ongoing.
