A Springfield gang member will spend the next 10 years behind bars.
Keanthony Brown, 19, is a member of the "Boss Playas" gang and was sentenced on Wednesday.
In October 2020, Brown fired shots at two police officers inside a car.
Brown said during court proceedings that he didn’t realize who he was shooting at.
Brown pleaded guilty in May to aggravated discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a street gang member.
Sangamon County State's Attorney Dan Wright says these types of crimes will not be ignored.
"I think this case and the sentence the judge imposed sends a very strong message that gun violence and gang activity that glorifies violence that would endanger the lives of our community will not be tolerated," said Dan Wright, Sangamon County State's Attorney.
The officers he shot at were in the courtroom for the sentencing.
Brown must serve 85% of his 10-year sentence.
New details were brought to light during Wednesday's sentencing hearing.
While Brown was in jail for the crime he reportedly got into multiple fights with other gang members.
He also made a comment to an officer that if he had a cellmate he would kill them.
